How We Tested the AI Notes Generators

We tested each meeting tool by getting them to review and transcribe one common YouTube video. The YouTube video we provided them to transcribe is "So, how does Artistic Swimming work at the Olympics? | #Paris2024''.

We picked this video specifically to test if the tools can identify what the speaker is saying through the background music. The video's background music is super loud and as a human myself, I find it hard to decipher what the speaker is even saying. The captions for this video are also unavailable.

All these challenges make this the perfect video to test the tools with.

The harder the audio, the better the challenge. 🔥

Verdict

I will keep this brief and to the point, focusing on the quality of notes for each tool.

  • Jamie: Accurate meeting notes with excellent capture of decisions and tasks. The meeting notes look more human-written than AI, which is the feature I love the most. It had two misspellings of two words, Sculling and Knight, which are techniques used for artistic swimming. Regardless of the misspelling, the definition of culling was later given with the correct spelling. I would rate this note 4.9/5! 🔥
  • Otter.ai: At first glance, the meeting notes were too little for my taste. It hasn't captured any of the key events. No techniques were mentioned either. I would rate this note 2.5/5 🔥(for effort)
  • Fireflies.ai: As always, love their way of categorizing meeting notes with emojis and citation/timestamps. However, it lacked accuracy with terminology the most and poor capture of decisions and action items. The notes were definitely better than Otter's. I would rate this 4/5. 🔥
  • Tactiq: I love the notes in Tactiq. The only off-putting thing is that we need AI credits to summarize the notes. For each transcription, we have to press certain summarization techniques ourselves, and for each transcription, we send out for a summary, it will deduct AI credits, and the free version has only 5 credits. Considering these factors, I would rate this 4.5/5 🔥
  • Notta: Notta's notes are really good as well. It has captured all the key events but struggled with terminology and misspellings. I would rate this 4/5 🔥

otter.ai cover image

Otter is also a meeting note-taking web app, that helps you transcribe and summarize meeting notes.

One of its unique features is its AI chat function, where we can chat about ongoing meetings or live meetings inside the chat, and it will answer it for us.

But when I do ask something from Otter AI Chat, it automatically sends it to the meeting chat. Which can be quite uncomfortable for you. As everyone in the meeting can now see your question.

✅Otter.AI chat, can help answer your questions in real-time as the meeting goes on.

✅ Provides your real-time transcription, so you can look back and catch up with missed details.

❌ Struggles with identifying certain technical keywords decreasing the accuracy of the meeting notes.

4. Tactiq

tactiq interface, AI note summarization, requring AI Credits for summary.

Next up is Tactiq, I was quite intrigued and was almost itching to try this tool out to see how good their notes really are.

It is safe to say I was not disappointed with their notes, but the tool itself needed a lot of improvements to give users a better user experience.

Notes, on the other hand, are very well written; however, you need AI credits for every summarization.

Which takes away the reliability of this tool. Because all the prior tools provided AI summaries immediately after transcription.

Tactiq's ai tools for summarization, requesting credits for summarization.

Other than this factor, I think Tactiq's notes are really good, though you need to manually request which type of meeting notes you want.

Benefits

✅ Different types of summarization techniques to choose from. Each is detailed and descriptive.

✅ Just like Jamie, no bots are joining your meetings, giving you an uninterrupted meeting experience.

✅ There is a live transcription option available for you to capture what is said in real time.

✅ Tactiq can generate very clean and accurate action items.

✅ Tactiq supports over 30+ languages.

✅ Just like Jamie, Tactiq does not store your audio files for your own privacy and data security.

Drawbacks

❌ Doesn't transcribe videos less than or equal to 2 minutes. The video we tested lasted 2:03 minutes.

❌ Took the longest time to upload and transcribe a 3-minute video.

❌ Need AI credits to get an AI-generated summary. While other tools offer it soon after transcription.

❌ Only available as a Chrome extension, limiting its use to those on other browsers.

❌ Can only view the meeting notes if the other person signs up, taking away the power of accessibility and inclusivity that would allow all participants to benefit from the shared information.

❌The free plan is limited to 5 AI credits per account per month, which is definitely not enough for heavy users.

❌ Real-time transcription struggles a lot to identify what is being said.

❌ Tactiq doesn't work offline, for in-person meetings. (You must manually record your meeting on your phone or other device and upload it to Tactiq to transcribe it, which reduces the tool's accessibility and reliability for saving meeting notes anywhere, anytime.)

Pricing

  • Free Plan: Free
  • Pro Plan: $12 per user/month
  • Team Plan: $20 per user/month
  • Enterprise Plan: Custom pricing.
