Fathom AI's flashy pop-ups, bright yellow speaker time tracker, and the bot inside the meeting were too overwhelming for me, so I searched for Fathom AI Alternatives.

First of all, I like to ramble, go off on tangents, and make jokes. I also like to have real, human conversations. Fathom AI's bot, however, lurking on the screen trying to summarize what's being said makes it a little awkward.

It was not only me who got a little nervous about being recorded; other people also found it hard to be themselves with a robot on the screen. This made me quickly look into Best Fathom AI alternatives (that especially take amazing notes without BOTS).

In this post, I’ll walk you through why someone would want to look into Fathom AI alternatives, and then I’ll share a list of the Top 10 Fathom AI competitors to upgrade your meeting game. You’ll find options that prioritize your privacy, AI-powered show-stoppers, and everything in between.

Let’s get to it!

Awkward Bot Presence?

Why You Might Look for Fathom AI Alternatives

It’s Hard to Ignore That Bot

Fathom’s bot joining as a participant in your own Zoom calls or Teams meetings can feel disruptive and overly present. Many users have expressed discomfort with its visible presence, which they say distracts from the natural flow of conversations.

“I don’t like the presence of the bot as a video attendee on the main screen. It’s distracting, particularly in one-on-one meetings because I’d rather be looking at people on the screen.” - G2 Review

“Hard to make it leave the meeting, when you don’t intend to, also — it being explicitly present as a participant in Zoom.”- G2 Review

Those Distracting Bars and Pop-Ups

Fathom’s interface isn’t without its flaws. Several users have pointed out that the bars and pop-ups on the screen can feel obtrusive, making it hard to focus on the actual meeting.

“Bars on the right of the screen are distracting.” - G2 Review

Summaries Aren’t Always Spot On

While Fathom’s note-taking can be helpful to record meetings in, some users have reported that the generated summaries are not always accurate or complete. This can lead to frustration when relying on the tool for detailed meeting documentation.

“Quite a lot of mistakes in the meeting summary, more than acceptable.” - G2 Review

“It’s a little slow in generating alternative summaries. I mostly copy and paste the transcript into Aurora or ChatGPT and get a faster reply.” - G2 Review

#1: Jamie

Jamie | Fathom ai alternatives

Jamie is a bot-free AI meeting assistant and is all about securing genuine human connections. Privacy and simplicity are top priorities, and Jamie fits right into your existing video conferencing workflows. Jamie's bot-free feature is helpful when you’re on a sensitive client call and you want to take notes and capture action items.

Jamie ONLY transcribes, meaning it does not record audio (it's deleted right after transcription) or video to maintain your utmost privacy. You can transcribe in whatever video call app you use and Jamie simply gets to work. No bots intruding on your meetings sales calls; just amazing notes.

Key Features of Jamie

No Bots, No Distractions, Just Amazing Note-Taking

Jamie bot free ai meeting note taker | fathom ai alternatives

When I’m in a meeting I want to focus on the conversation without distractions. You’ve probably been in meetings where bots or external tools join meeting conversations as participants and disrupt the flow. Jamie changes that. It works silently in the background without joining the meeting visibly. You don’t have to explain why there’s a “note-taking bot” in the participant list or deal with interruptions.

But here’s the thing: while Jamie is invisible, it’s your responsibility to let attendees know that transcription is happening. I always make sure to tell attendees that Jamie is recording audio to create notes, not storing any video, and that the audio is deleted immediately after processing. This simple step keeps things transparent and professional, so you and your attendees can feel safe.

Turns Conversations Into Actionable Insights

jamies amazing meeting notes with highest accuracy action items and decision captures | fathom ai alternatives

How often do you leave a meeting with a stack of notes that don’t tell you what to do next? I’ve been there too, and that’s where Jamie’s topic detection comes in. It doesn’t just record what’s said; it organizes your meeting into sections like decisions made, tasks to do, and next steps.

For example, Jamie can detect when you’re assigning responsibilities or discussing project timelines. It then creates a clear, structured summary so you can review and act on it. This saves you time and makes sure you never miss a follow-up. With Jamie, meetings don’t simply end, they turn important moments into actionable plans.

Your Personal Real-Time Assistant | Sidebar

Jamie's executive assistant | Sidebar | Fathom AI Alternatives

Have you ever wanted to access meeting notes or draft an email without leaving what you’re doing? I know I have and that’s why Jamie’s Sidebar is so cool. With a simple CTRL + J shortcut you can bring up Jamie’s AI-powered Sidebar to search past notes, brainstorm ideas, or even create content on the fly.

What’s even better is you can choose between Jamie’s AI or other advanced models like GPT-4 or Claude-3-Opus to tailor the responses to your needs.

Works Across All Platforms

Jamie works in any platform | fathom ai alternative

I know how annoying it is to find a meeting tool that works with all the popular video conferencing platforms that you use. That’s why Jamie is built to work with whatever video conferencing platform you use – Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and more (literally, any video conferencing platform).

You don’t need to install any plugins or change how you work. Jamie fits into your existing workflow. Whether you’re jumping between client meetings on Teams and internal strategy sessions on Zoom, Jamie keeps up, so you get reliable notes every time. You only have to click "Start Meeting", the rest, Jamie will handle it.

Privacy You Can Trust

When it comes to privacy I don’t take risks and neither does Jamie. Every audio file is processed on GDPR-compliant servers in Germany and deleted immediately after transcription. That means your sensitive conversations – whether about business strategy, client data, or HR matters – are never stored or shared.

But you still need to let attendees know what Jamie does. I always make sure to tell people that Jamie is transcribing audio, not recording video, and deletes the audio as soon as the notes are created. This level of transparency makes everyone feel comfortable and respected which is so important for building trust.

In-Person Meetings? Covered.

Meetings don’t always happen online and I love that Jamie works just as well in person. If you are in a brainstorming session or an offsite meeting with no internet. Jamie can still capture everything.

You won’t have to worry about scribbling down ideas or missing important details. Jamie’s offline transcription makes it perfect for remote and hybrid teams, or people who collaborate in person frequently. Jamie is an assistant that works wherever you do.

Notes Tailored to Your Style

Not all notes are created equal, I get that. Jamie lets you customize meeting notes to your style or brand. You can change the layout, add your company jargon, or highlight specific key points. You can train Jamie to write notes like you or your company would. So you can share professional updates with stakeholders or team members without spending hours editing.

Secure and Compliant

Security is important and Jamie takes it seriously. I like that all audio is processed on encrypted servers and deleted after transcription. Jamie is GDPR compliant so it’s perfect for industries like finance, healthcare, or law where confidentiality is key. When you use Jamie you can sleep easy knowing your data is safe and looked after. One less thing to worry about.

How Does Jamie Compare to Fathom?

jamie vs fathom comparison table

When it comes to meeting automation tools, both Jamie and Fathom have their own strengths. Let me break it down for you so you can decide which one is for you.

Where Fathom excels

Fathom is good if your workflow is built around CRM tools like Salesforce or HubSpot. It can sync meeting notes directly into these systems so is perfect for sales and customer success teams who need integration.

If you need real-time transcription, Fathom might be for you. It offers live transcription with speaker attribution so you can see what’s being discussed and who said what.

Where Jamie excels

Jamie takes a different approach, prioritizing privacy, flexibility, and an intuitive user experience. Here’s why I think Jamie has the edge in a few areas:

  • Bot-Free Experience: Jamie doesn’t join your meetings as a visible participant. This means no interruptions or awkward bots on the screen. You can focus on the conversation, not the tool.
  • Privacy You Can Trust: If privacy is important to you, Jamie wins. Unlike Fathom, Jamie transcribes audio, deletes it immediately after processing, and doesn’t record video. This makes it perfect for sensitive discussions like HR meetings, strategy sessions, or legal matters.
  • Offline and In-Person Capabilities: Jamie isn’t just for virtual meetings. It can transcribe in-person discussions, even without internet access. Whether you’re at an offsite, a workshop or an in-office brainstorming session, Jamie means you never miss a word.
  • Sidebar feature: Jamie acts as an AI-powered executive assistant. With a simple shortcut (CTRL + J), you can search past meetings, ask questions, or even draft emails, saving time and increasing productivity.
  • Universal compatibility: Jamie works across all video conferencing platforms without requiring plugins or extensions, ensuring a seamless experience regardless of the platform you or your clients use.

My Final (Honest) Thoughts on Fathom AI Note Taker

Fathom AI Note Taker is a decent automated note taker but it has its limitations, especially when it comes to a more personal and natural meeting experience.

contrasting images of how jamie shows their timers, and how fathom shows theirs.

During meetings, Fathom’s bot can feel intrusive, especially the bright yellow “Monologue Detection” pop-up, which interrupts the flow of conversation and makes participants self-conscious. This feature is meant to ensure equal speaking time by timing your talk time, but is more of a distraction than a benefit, in my opinion.

monologue detection

And the pop-up box that stays on the screen even after attendees have joined just adds to the frustration.

After the meeting, the dashboard provided by Fathom was functional but cluttered and hard to navigate.

The condensed meeting notes make it hard to find specific information quickly. Although Fathom offers options to highlight and bookmark during the meeting, the execution isn’t always smooth and sometimes misses the mark.

In contrast, Jamie is a more streamlined experience with simplicity, privacy, and user control. Jamie has no bots and a non-intrusive interface so it’s a more natural meeting environment.

Jamie’s advanced AI models have broader and more complex conversational abilities than Fathom’s basic chat functions. Jamie also deletes audio after transcription and doesn’t record video.

If you need detailed automated notes with CRM integration and don’t mind a more intrusive tool, you will love Fathom.

But if you want a more natural, less distracting meeting experience with more privacy and more powerful AI, Jamie might be the better option. Not only will you get an exclusive meeting experience, you will also be provided with a human-like meeting summary.

Try both Fathom and Jamie and see which one fits your meeting needs. Fathom has good features but requires some adjustments to your personal taste, while Jamie has a more hands-off, user-friendly approach that could improve your meeting experience.
