In this Zoom review, I’m going to analyze Zoom’s features, security, pricing, and more, and give you my unbiased take on the platform. Zoom has pretty much become synonymous with virtual meetings, but is it still the best option for turning them into productive work sessions? Let’s find out.

Zoom simplifies communication by combining meetings, calls, and collaboration tools in one platform.

It offers tailored solutions for different business needs. For example, Zoom Workplace integrates essential communication tools, including Meetings, Team Chat, Phone, Mail and Calendar, and Scheduler, and provides a seamless workspace for collaboration.

On the other hand, Zoom’s Business Services cover advanced customer engagement solutions such as Contact Center, Virtual Agent, and workforce engagement management, ensuring efficient support and operations.

Zoom Core Features

Let’s go over Zoom’s key features: 

1. Meetings 

With best-in-class audio and video, noise suppression, and virtual backgrounds, Zoom Meetings set you up for a smooth, professional video call every time.

You can stay organized and keep everyone on the same page by attaching pre-reads and agendas directly to your meeting invites, so attendees can come prepared. Once the meeting starts, Multi-Speaker View keeps you focused by automatically highlighting active speakers.

And the conversation doesn’t end when the meeting does—chat channels keep discussions going before, during, and after, so no information slips through the cracks. Built-in calendar integrations make it effortless to schedule meetings, whether you're using Zoom or a third-party tool from your existing tech stack.

2. Zoom AI Companion 

Zoom AI Companion, the platform’s native AI assistant, helps you stay on top of conversations, meetings, and documents without having to go through everything manually. 

It summarizes unread chat messages, long documents, and emails, making it easier to catch up quickly. If you need to reference past meetings, you can revisit discussions, ask follow-up questions, or search the web for related details.

It’s also useful for organizing thoughts and drafting content. You can upload documents for more context, generate first drafts directly from the side panel, and keep track of key topics and action items. 

Since it works across Team Chat, email, calendar, and meetings, it fits naturally into your workflow without adding extra steps.

3. Collaboration Tools

Zoom’s collaboration tools make it easy to work with your team beyond video communication, in real time or asynchronously. 

Clips lets you record and share video messages or screen recordings, so updates and explanations don’t always require a live meeting. 

With Surveys, you can gather quick feedback in one place and make decision-making more efficient.

For brainstorming and planning, Zoom’s virtual whiteboards provide a shared space where your team can map out ideas, sketch workflows, and collaborate visually in real time or asynchronously. 

With meetings, messaging, video updates, and interactive tools under one roof, your team stays connected and productive without juggling multiple tools.

4. Cloud Phone System 

Zoom’s cloud phone system provides a reliable way to handle calls from anywhere, whether you're in the office or on the go. 

With supervised transfers, you can introduce a caller before transferring them and ensure a smooth handoff. Blind transfers come in handy to quickly route calls to the right person without delay.

Managing voicemails is simple with Zoom’s voicemail transcription and notifications. They allow you to read or listen to messages from any device without dialing in. 

Zoom also offers on-demand and full-time call recording, so you can capture conversations, along with searchable transcriptions and playback, and easily review details later.

Zoom brings a variety of tools to the table, but it’s not flawless.

The user experience is impressive, even though the admin tools could be smoother. Its new AI summary feature is a great start, but it’s unable to fully capture meetings accurately. 

There’s still a lot of room for improvement. 

“The latest AI summary is a great feature, but more is needed to have better content parity and accuracy with the actual meetings. I am sure this is one area Zoom will refine as it goes along.” -G2 review

Zoom Interface: Is It Easy To Use?

From my experience with Zoom, its interface is clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate, both on desktop or while using the Zoom app on mobile. 

I appreciate how, despite being packed with advanced features, it doesn’t feel overwhelming or complicated. This has been especially helpful when working with teams that have different levels of tech comfort—everyone can get up to speed quickly without much friction.

Zoom’s user-friendly interface makes it an ideal choice for businesses, professionals, and students. Not much to complain about. 

Zoom Security Measures

According to popular security review websites like UpGuard, Zoom is a safe to use platform,  with a score of 907/950, and an overall A rating.

However, in the recent past, Zoom’s security has come under scrutiny time and again. 

In March 2023, Zoom updated its terms to allow the use of customer data for AI training. After facing serious criticism from all quarters, Zoom clarified to the press that customers can choose whether to enable generative AI features and separately decide whether to share their content for product improvement. However, it didn’t wipe out all doubts users had with the platform’s reliability. 

In the meanwhile, Zoom has attempted to tighten up security across all current plans. End-to-end encryption, enterprise-grade protections, and GDPR compliance are included in Zoom Workplace—even on the free plan. 

The Business plan adds extra security options like SSO and managed domains, which aren’t available in lower-tier plans. 

Zoom's paid plans offer cloud storage for meeting recordings, making it easy to access and share them. However, this convenience comes with potential security risks and privacy concerns, especially for sensitive data.

Despite Zoom’s new terms of services and security features, it’s hard for me to look past the issues that surfaced in the last couple of years, and I’m still somewhat apprehensive about how Zoom uses the stored user data. For this reason, I cannot give it more than 6 out of 10. 

Zoom Integrations

Zoom offers a vast range of integrations with third-party tools across various categories, including analytics, streaming, CRM, collaboration, customer service, project management, and productivity. 

Some essential integrations include HubSpot, Salesforce, Slack, Google Workspace, Notion, and Calendly.

Compared to competitors like Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, Zoom has an advantage with its extensive integration options. Whether your tech stack includes mainstream or niche tools, chances are Zoom can sync with it. 

However, if you're integrating tools with Zoom for the first time, be prepared for a slight learning curve.

Zoom’s native integrations met my requirements. However, I would’ve liked it more if the initial setup with new tools was more seamless. 

Zoom Customer Support

Zoom’s customer support has received mixed reviews. Some users find the team helpful and responsive, while others report delays—especially when it comes to troubleshooting usage issues. But Zoom tends to be quicker at addressing configuration and implementation concerns.

One G2 user said that the support during the trial period was excellent—fast, attentive, and highly responsive. But once they became a paying customer, the level of assistance wasn’t quite the same. 

Zoom can definitely improve its post-purchase technical support to match the quality of its pre-sales service.

Zoom Pricing Model: Does It Provide A Good Value for Money?

Zoom Workplace comes with a free plan which offers online meetings (up to 40 minutes per meeting and maximum 100 participants), Team Chat, Zoom Docs Basic (no AI), and Whiteboard Basic. AI Companion is not available for free Zoom accounts.  

The paid Zoom Workplace plans are: 

• Pro (1-99 users): $13.33 per user/month when billed annually or $15.99 per user/month when billed monthly.

Third-party data from Vendr shows that Zoom’s average contract value is $10,786, based on 250 deals processed through the platform.

For organizations with 200 users, the cost ranges from $14,500 to $27,600. Larger organizations with 1,000 users can expect to spend between $23,900 and $58,200.

Zoom’s free plan is great, but I wish there was a way to try the AI companion without paying. 

For large meetings, the costs can add up fast—especially if you’re hosting them regularly. 

I feel the pricing is fair for what Zoom offers, but considering how essential it is for many teams, a more budget-friendly option for larger groups would be a welcome change.

Zoom isn’t the best option if you:

❌ Don’t have a sizeable budget (because the prices can quickly add up, especially if you take add-ons)
